Yomawari: Midnight Shadows, called Shin-Yomawari in Japan, is a survival horror video game developed by Nippon Ichi Software. It is a follow-up to the 2015 survival horror hit Yomawari: Night Alone. The Japanese language version of the game was released on August 24, 2017, while the English version was available from October 2017. Yomawari: Midnight Shadows follows the adventure of a little girl (Haru) as she looks for her missing sister (Yui) and dog (Poro) in her local town. It quickly turns out that her town becomes a different place at night, and also happens to be crawling with all kinds of deadly spirits. To survive, Haru must try to outsmart the ghost by diverting their attention and sneaking past them.
A lot has changed in the Yomawari franchise since its last release. There are several elements that have either been altered or built from the ground up. Here’re some of the most interesting features in Yomawari: Midnight Shadows.
This second instalment of the Yomawari series features a large gaming area – the map size is more than twice the size of Night Alone. Additionally, players can explore exciting areas around town including abandoned buildings, dark sewers, junkyards, just to name a few.
Yomawari: Midnight Shadows introduces new game mechanics to make the game more interesting. These include:
• Charms – throughout the course of the game, a player may come across charms that he/she can put on. These items provide special perks such as increased stamina, increased running speed and ability to carry extra pebbles.
• Push items – this mechanic allows a player to push obstacles out of the way, move wooden boxes and make stepping stones.
