State of Decay 2, a forthcoming zombie survival video game, is a continuation of State of Decay video game which was released in 2013.
Development and Release
Undead Labs is the developer of the game and Microsoft Studios is the publisher. It is being developed using UE4 (Unreal Engine 4). It was announced on 13 June 2016, at Microsoft’s Electronic Entertainment Expo Xbox briefing.
The game was planned to be released in the year 2017 for Xbox One as well as Windows 10. At Microsoft’s Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017 Xbox briefing, an announcement was made that the game was going to be released in March 2018.
The game will be available to play free of charge to the subscribers of Xbox Game Pass at the release of the game, as with all upcoming Microsoft Studios titles. Also, State of Decay will be sold as an XPA (Xbox Play-Anywhere) title, and support cross-play between Xbox as well as Windows 10 players.
The game is played from a third-person view and the setting is in an open world. It features cooperative gameplay (co-op) with a maximum of four players.
One and a half years after the zombie apocalypse (a widespread rise of zombies), the military decides to abandon a refugee camp based in a small-town America. The people left behind must come together to survive civilization fall and the rise of zombies.
In the game, the player must gather survivers then build a community, redefining what it means to survive. Also, in the game, when you are not managing your ever-expanding community needs, you will be going out to kill or scavenge.
All members of the community are playable characters. Each character that the player brings to the community has a combination of skills, statistics plus other characteristics that will determine how they play. Same as its predecessor, individual members of the community in the game can suffer from perma-death.
According to Microsoft, the player’s choices are going to determine the type of community they build. That will make the experience of each player to be unique.
