World of Warcraft (or WOW) is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) that was announced in 2001 and released in 2004 by Blizzard on the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise. Despite being incredibly popular to this day, WOW is the fourth game set in the Warcraft universe. In this particular game, WOW is set in Azeroth.
WOW has several expansions which have been released over the years since WOW was released. The first expansion came three years after and was called The Burning Crusade. Burning Crusade made the popular Blood Elves a playable race as well as new plot lines. The second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, became avialable a year after Burning Crusade. This expansion added a new continent and a new class for players to choose. Cataclysm, released in 2010, was the third expansion to be added to WOW. Cataclysm raised the ultimate level by five for players. In 2012 Mists of Pandaria was released and became the fourth expansion for WOW. This expansion also raised the maximum level by another five points to make it 90. It also added the famous Pandaren race to the playable list. Warlords of Draenor was the fifth expansion and was released two years after Mists of Pandaria. Yet again the maximum level raised to 100, textures and details also became more finely tuned which meant that system requirements rose. The most recently released expansion pack is Legion which came out in 2016. Legion raised the maximum level to 110, added new weapons, new areas and a new class. Battle for Azeroth has been announced but yet to be released.
